Come to the Table: An Invitation to the BRIDE

Will you remain busy, or will you come commune with the One who invited you to take a seat?

For many of us as mothers who cook every meal, prepare every snack, clear the table, and wipe away the crumbs in preparation to do it all again…life looks this way.

Many meals require me to scoop, pour, serve, wipe away, clean…and repeat. ‘Please, Mom, I want more,’ and ‘Oops, I spilled my milk,’ are common announcements among my children at each meal. So often, I spend more time serving and cleaning than actually sitting and enjoying the meal.

My husband hates the thought of me being the last one to leave the table, and he cannot stand to see me picking through a plate of cold food. He always encourages me to sit and partake of the meal before I become too busy to enjoy it—especially when he has prepared it.

What if Jesus is concerned in this same way about our attentiveness to His return? He has prepared a table with a feast for you, and for me. There is a full spread of His goodness and His love, new mercy and forgiveness, healing and deliverance…but we must sit. We must accept His invitation and come ready to commune with Him. He yearns for us to know that many of the things that we have chosen over our place at the table can and should wait…

Yet we continue pursuing what we have identified as urgent—what must be cleaned up now, what must be finished first…

What must be done before we choose to take our seat and join Him?

What could be more important than the Bride taking her seat with her patiently waiting Bridegroom?

“Let us rejoice and exalt him and give him glory, because the wedding celebration of the Lamb has come. And his bride has made herself ready.”

‭‭Revelation‬ ‭19‬:‭7‬ ‭(TPT)

The lover of our soul desires to sit with us at an intimate feast where He is breaking fresh bread, and pouring fresh wine.

Jesus desires fellowship with us. He is calling His Bride near, preparing her for the feast to come, and reminding His beloved—the Church—where our deepest love belongs.

Will you miss the invitation? Will you choose serving, as Martha did, over sitting at His feet, as Mary did? When does our service become our idol and our replacement for true fellowship, intimacy and worship?

What if the Church chose to make the appointed moment of meeting with our Savior a most sacred and tender moment? What if Sundays became a prepared feast, and we laid down our duties, our roles, our titles and our crowns?

What if we all came and found our seat, sat down and fully engaged in dining with the One who longs for our most treasured offering unto Him…

Our hearts.

Our attention.

Our devotion.

Unhurried.

Undistracted.

Fully engaged in Him.

Fully surrendered in His presence.

Come to the table.

He’s invited you to sit.

“Behold, I’m standing at the door, knocking. If your heart is open to hear my voice and you open the door within, I will come in to you and feast with you, and you will feast with me.”

‭‭Revelation‬ ‭3‬:‭20‬ ‭TPT‬‬

Will you choose to join Him now…while the invitation is still open?

“While the five girls were out buying oil, the bridegroom appeared. Those who were ready and waiting were escorted inside with him and the wedding party to enjoy the feast. And then the door was locked. Later, the five foolish girls came running up to the door and pleaded, ‘Lord, Lord, let us come in!’ “But he called back, ‘Go away! Do I know you? I can assure you, I don’t even know you!’ “That is the reason you should always stay awake and be alert, because you don’t know the day or the hour when the Bridegroom will appear.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭25‬:‭10‬-‭13‬ ‭TPT‬‬
